Technological advances in dentistry have greatly expanded the number of patients who can benefit from dental implants. No matter what you might have been told in the past, dental implants could be right for you. Learn what to expect during the implant process.
Meeting Your Implant Provider
The first step on your journey to a new smile is your no-obligation consultation with Dr. Eugene Stanislaus. During your first visit, we’ll provide you with a comprehensive exam to make sure you’re a candidate for dental implants.
If you have sufficient bone tissue in your jaw, along with healthy gums and teeth, we’ll be able to start the dental implant procedure right away. If not, we may recommend undergoing a supplemental procedure to better prepare your jawbone.
Dr. Stanislaus is able to complete your tooth replacement procedure right here in our Brooklyn Heights office. Best of all, it only requires three appointments to restore your smile.
Placing Your Dental Implant
After your consultation, Dr. Stanislaus will surgically place the implant fixture, or the part of the implant that bonds with your jawbone. This process is called osseointegration, which creates a durable foundation for the implant.
The fixture is made of a safe, biocompatible titanium that helps your jawbone naturally develop a secure attachment to the fixture. We’ll also fit you with a temporary crown to protect the surgical site while it heals over the next few months.
Earning Your New, Beautiful Smile
Once the dental implant healing process is complete, you’ll return to our Brooklyn office so we can attach a seamless-looking porcelain crown. It’s crafted to match the shape and appearance of your natural teeth, so nobody will be able to tell the difference.
If Dr. Stanislaus is restoring a whole arch of missing teeth, you may qualify for immediate-load implants. If so, that means you’ll be provided with fully functional new teeth on the same day as your implant surgery. Ask a friendly member of our staff about your options.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a dental implant procedure take?
Each treatment is customized to the patient’s individual needs, meaning that the dental implant process timeline will vary from person to person. Typically, the treatment is completed in a series of appointments over the course of several months.
How is dental implant surgery done?
Dr. Stanislaus will place the titanium implant fixture directly in your jaw. Once he’s finished, he’ll suture the wound to protect the surgical area. From this point, your jaw will need about three to six months to heal. After that, Dr. Stanislaus will attach your abutment and crown to complete the procedure.
How painful is a dental implant procedure?
Before your procedure, Dr. Stanislaus will administer local anesthetic to numb the surgical area. We also offer nitrous oxide or IV sedation upon request. You’ll likely experience some mild soreness or discomfort after your surgery, but this should fade quickly.
How long do dental implants take to heal?
After the initial placement, your jaw will need three to six months in order to heal. This allows time for osseointegration, the process of your titanium implant fixture bonding with your jaw. In some cases, Dr. Stanislaus may be able to attach your restoration immediately after placing your implants. However, this requires a strong jawbone and healthy gums.
Can dental implants fail?
While dental implants can fail in some cases, they have an overall success rate of 98%. Dr. Stanislaus has over 40 years of experience and will ensure that your treatment is both safe and effective.
How do I get started on the dental implant process?
The first step of the dental implant process is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Stanisalus. During this visit, he’ll evlauate your oral health and develop a customized treatment plan just for you.
